Meet Doug
Hello, I'm Doug Wang, and I'm excited to announce my candidacy for the Shaker Heights School Board. I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My wife, Holly, and I have proudly called Shaker Heights home for the past 38 years, where we raised our four children: Sarah (Margolius) '03, Alex '05, Carter '07, and Mia '14, all of whom graduated from Shaker Heights High School. Sarah, along with her husband, Adam Margolius '05, and Alex, along with her wife, Trisha Stacks, currently reside in Shaker and are planning to send their children—Mae, Owen, Hazel, and Gemma—to Shaker Schools when they are of age.
After completing my degree in Mathematics from Kenyon College in 1978, I worked in sales at IBM for five years in Cincinnati. Following that, I pursued my Master's degree in Management with a focus on Finance at the Sloan School at MIT. It was during this time that Sarah was born, and my wife and I made the decision to settle in Cleveland, specifically Shaker Heights, to raise our family. In 1985, we moved to our house in the Boulevard neighborhood, where we have resided ever since. For thirty years, I worked in the investment management industry, including ten years as a founding partner of Lakepoint Investment Partners. In 2011, I retired from Northern Trust to dedicate myself to non-profit service.
In addition to my professional background, I have served on various non-profit boards. I spent nine years on the board of the Shaker Schools Foundation, where I chaired the finance committee until 2022. Currently, I hold positions on multiple boards, including Judson Services, Inc. (as board chair), The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland (as a member of the executive committee and chair of the finance committee), Cuyahoga County Board of Health (as vice chair), University Circle Inc. (as chair of the finance committee and incoming chair), Policy Matters Ohio (as finance committee chair), The Higley Fund of the Cleveland Foundation, The City Club Forum Foundation, and previously served on the board of The St. Luke's Foundation of Cleveland (as past board chair), Kenyon College, and Rainey Institute.
This extensive and diverse experience has provided me with valuable insights into leveraging my expertise to enhance organizational effectiveness, collaborating with CEOs to improve execution and communication, and effectively balancing financial considerations with the organization's mission. I firmly believe that my experience and skills can contribute significantly to the Shaker Heights School Board. I sincerely hope for the opportunity to serve you and the district as a member of the board.
